This weekend I visited Irene’s along with members of the Texas chapter of Spoon University, an organization and food website that I recently joined on campus. Irene’s is one of those places that social media loves, partly due to the sign at the front of the building, a perfect spot for pictures. We went during Happy Hour to try a lot of their new menu items and to get to know each other a little. This experience was especially fun because I got to hang out with a bunch of girls who share similar interests with me.
I’ll get straight to the point – my favorite dish was the farro & mushrooms. I’m not a huge mushroom person, but this combination of farro, butternut squash, mushrooms, and fried egg was absolutely delicious. It was the perfect fall dish.
The rest of the food I tried was also very good but not as memorable. As a whole, though, Irene’s was the best foodie experience I’ve had in awhile. I think what made it so enjoyable was that we were all down to try pretty much anything. Pigs in a blanket, which I haven’t had since grade school, turned out to be a nice surprise, and though I’m not normally a spinach and artichoke dip kind of person, I was all about this one.
Alright, but we know what I was especially excited for… the drinks. I ordered a sangria, but the flavor got a bit boring to me after awhile. But the real star of the show was the Spiced Apple punch, which was BOMB. It was like a Fall version of a Moscow Mule which happens to be my favorite drink. So if I go again, I would probably be going just to have this again.
I’m really glad I got to know the girls of Spoon a bit better and enjoyed myself greatly after a week of feeling a little down.
